A message to our guests from Ron Hill, the operating partner of the Folly Beach Crab Shack

Dear Friends,Ron Hill Owner of Charleston Crab Shacks Seafood Restaurant

As I look back over the last ten years, I have been blessed with more than I could have ever imagined or dreamed. My lifelong dream was to one day own & run my own restaurant. That dream started to materialize in the fall of 1999. It all started with a phone call from my partners Dan Doyle & Ryan Condon asking if I would be interested in running and owning a restaurant on Folly Beach. The second question was what we thought would be a good restaurant for Folly. Our first response was holes in the tables, seafood, & Jimmy Buffet music.

What I did not envision was the many blessings that were going to come my way. From all the locals that I have had the honor to serve and become friends with, to the people that God blessed me with to carry out this task. My staff. Over the years, I have been blessed with the most incredible people. There are now way too many to name, but each one has played a very important role in the successes that this restaurant has seen. I could never thank them enough, because without them, I would not have been able to turn a “hole in the wall” place into one that is filled with passion, love and the very will that everyone that comes through that door should feel like family!

All good things come from God, and I believe I might be one of the most blessed people in the world. Not only have I been blessed with a wonderful staff to help fulfill my dreams, I have also been blessed to be here on Folly Beach that has the biggest sense of community. The locals on Folly are truly the other side of this success story. Without them, I would not be here to celebrate the past ten years! Each and every one of you here tonight has played a very important role in my dream. You have supported my Crab Shack family and me each and every winter. Words cannot express how thankful and grateful I am to have such support. I wish for one minute, that each and everyone could go inside my heart and feel the love that I have for all of you. Folly truly is a very unique place; there is no place or community that is quite like Folly. It has people that actually care for one another and when someone is in need, Folly locals are always there to help.

I saved five people to thank that in the beginning believed in my dream and me. If it were not for these five people believing in me, I would not be here tonight. First I want to thank my wife Paige for believing in me 10 years ago. I went to her with a three year old son and a six-month-old son and said I wanted to quit my job (the only income we had), use all our savings and start a restaurant on Folly. She simply looked up from playing with our boys and said, “I believe in you, go for it”. And to my Dad, when I realized I did not have enough money to start the restaurant, I called him right after I talked to Paige and he said no problem. And to my brother, James, that without his family discount, we would not have the incredible art work that remembers the Folly Beach of the past. The last two are Ryan Condon and Dan Doyle for believing in me and being there for support. Thank you again, if you are one of the staff present or past, or one of the locals that have helped my dream come true, I thank you and this night is all about celebrating a dream come true!

Sincerely, Ron Hill
